NPSS Works With DHS and Other National Law Enforcement Agencies to Build and Operate First National Security Network for Non Profit Community Sector

Federal, state and local law enforcement join with major organizations in comprehensive security consultation to a national non profit community

NEW YORK, NY - September 28, 2005 –The first full time security policy and emergency communication effort for a non profit  community has been launched with the cooperation of the community’s major organizations and federal, state and local law enforcement and counter terrorism agencies, Paul Goldenberg, President and CEO of NPSSG announced today.

“This project has been heralded by leading law enforcement and anti-terrorism agencies, including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a real model and prototype of how an American community can organize itself against threats of terrorism and bias crime. The Network provides the means for the community to partner with law enforcement to work towards the enhancement of preventive and response cooperation in the fight against terrorism throughout America,” Goldenberg said. “This new network can provide a model to all American communities as we all work to make our lives safer and more secure.”

NPSSG secured the cooperation of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the New Jersey Office of Counterterrorism to work with the community, in addition to  federal, state and local police agencies nationwide such as the New York Police Department and the Los Angeles Police Department. As a result, Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies now recognize this community as a primary vehicle to facilitate sharing of information and policy protocols concerning communal security.

A direct benefit derived from this cooperative relationship was the recently completed security audits of over 40 community institutions throughout the United States. This is the first time that nationwide security audits were conducted for a non-profit group. The format of the visits will also establish the precedent for conducting security audits on behalf of other non-profit organizations.,

In addition to establishing these important alliances with law enforcement, NPSSG also assisted with selecting and integrating a 24/7 high-speed alert system that moves beyond traditional communications and security links to connect the law enforcement and participating communities to provide protection against bias crimes and terrorist attacks.

It is important to note that this community oriented organization is not an investigative operation; rather, it is full time security advisory and emergency communication effort setting uniform policy platform geared to the specific needs of the particular community. Recognized by DHS as a primary vehicle to facilitate sharing of information and policy protocols, NPSSG focused on enabling participating organizations to receive reliable security information and updates, to enroll in the 24/7 alert community network, and access to areas of the website such as a library of safety and security resources, guidelines for implementation of best security practices, threat and vulnerability assessment templates, recommendations for strengthening institutional security, and information guides.

NPSSG has also provided the community with processional staff comprised of nationally know law-enforcement officials. “Through the efforts of NPSSG, we are most pleased to say that the client community has established a coordinated approach to critical safety and security needs, including expeditious proactive planning and establishing common standards for improving security at the national and local levels,” Goldenberg said. “NPSSG professionals offer expertise, guidance, and assistance to member organizations and institutions about terrorism and other threats. We also manage the community’s crisis communication system that allows rapid dissemination of critical information to all community members. By demonstrating how an organized community can positively impact its members and governmental authorities when it comes to Homeland Security, the stage has been set for other non profit communities to also make a difference”
