The County Executives of America Name Cardinal Point Strategies to Lead School Security Initiatives
WASHINGTON, DC - November, 30, 2007 - In an announcement made today, Cardinal Point Strategies (CPS) has been chosen to team with the County Executives of America (CEA) to head the CEA Homeland Security Resource Center’s School Safety Initiative.
“I don’t think we could have found a more experienced leader than Mr. Goldenberg or a better equipped organization than CPS to work with,” said the Honorable F.G. Villines, Pulaski County Judge, Little Rock, Arkansas and CEA President.
“The need to mobilize this initiative to work with officials on the local level has been clearly evidenced by the senseless loss of 33 young lives at Virginia Tech … as well as the scores of others who have succumbed to fatal attacks at our public and private elementary and secondary schools over the past ten years. CPS is a logical choice to serve CEA’s unique needs for this initiative,” said Michael Griffin, Executive Director of CEA.
“We are very pleased to be working with the County Executives of America,” said Paul Goldenberg, head of CPS. He added, “The fact remains that disruption of the school and/or school district can result in severe human and financial losses for the local communities and quickly erode the confidence of parents, students, faculty and staff which may also have severe repercussions for local government leadership. More significantly, a terrorist attack at an elementary or secondary school, especially one inflicting numerous casualties, will have a cascading effect on the community’s wellbeing and welfare.”
CPS is a nationally and internationally respected and relied upon organization. Their work with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (the OSCE) is the world's largest security organization and is comprised of 55 nations that reach from North America to Europe and across Asia.
Principal Members of the CPS team include Paul DeMatteis, the Senior Adviser on Corporate Security Programs and Director of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice Leadership Academy; Chief Art Kelly, III, a key contributor to the Secret Service’s Safe School Initiative reports; and Dr. John Moore of Response Law Inc., one of the foremost experts on school violence liability. All have a long history and special understanding of the unique public safety and community relations issues challenging school districts and county education administrators.
